Job Title: Climbing Team Coach
Position Description
The Hoosier Heights Indianapolis Team Coach is responsible for providing a positive and safe climbing experience for youth athletes within Hoosier Heights climbing team and fostering the growth of future generations of climbers. As a Team Coach, they will report to the facility Head Coach and facility General Manager.
This is a part-time coaching position. Hours per week can vary anywhere from 4 hours to 14 hours each week. With potential to travel and attend USAC Youth Competitions on weekends during the Competitive Climbing Season.
Youth Coach Job Responsibilities:
Coaching groups of youth athletes using knowledge of climbing skill experience, risk management, team unity, structured practice lesson plans, and of course a positive and fun attitude, sharing the joy of climbing—while also sharing the facility during team practices with members, guests, and other classes.
Maintain a strong understanding of existing Hoosier Heights program curriculum, policies, protocols and procedures to run effective programming, and effectively manage risk.
Come prepared to run practice within the role assigned, each practice should utilize a prepared lesson plan that provides a variety of activities to develop individual skills + abilities.
Utilize existing program curriculum to execute team practice plans and support team youth athletes. Facilitating program knowledge and standards including, but not limited to: knot tying, belaying (top rope/sport), climbing etiquette, technique, and best practices.
Communicate clearly with the Head Coach and General Manager, along with program families, facility staff, and the company leadership team as needed.
Be a team player, collaborate with other team coaches in inter-team relations and events, as well serve as a positive role model for our youth athletes.
Attend staff training as expected.
Potential to attend USAC Youth Competitions, as a coach.
Support in maintaining a positive environment for all youth program athletes and a culture of respect while sharing the climbing space.
Assist in the care, set-up, clean-up of program equipment, and other duties assigned as deemed necessary.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office and physically demanding environment. This position requires a variety of activity levels including frequent sitting at a workstation, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, communicating, and climbing.

Experience/Qualifications:
Self-motivating, energetic, team player with a strong understanding of positive behavior management and group facilitation skills with evidence of direct work with youth.
Experience coaching youth sports to youth athletes across a range of ages and abilities.
Strong personal knowledge and experience of rock climbing, including bouldering, top-rope, and sport lead. With the ability to pass a top-rope test and sport lead test.
Ability to meet certification requirements needed to work with youth based on industry + government requirements, which may include Safe-Sport Training, Background Check, USAClimbing Coach Membership, as well as First Aid/CPR requirements.
Availability:
Applicants must be available for a minimum of 2 or 3 weekdays during after-school hours every week. Team Practice schedules vary. Shifts may be any day, Monday-Thursday, 4:30PM-6:30PM, or 6:00 PM to 8:00PM.
