Job Title: Intermediate Team Coach

Position Description

The Hoosier Heights Bloomington Intermediate Coach is responsible for providing a positive + safe climbing experience for youth athletes within Hoosier Heights intermediate team to expand future generations of climbers. The  Intermediate Coach will report to the facility Head Coach and Facility General Manager.

This is a part-time coaching position.

Youth Coach Job Responsibilities:

  • Coach groups of youth athletes using team emphasizing skill development, risk management, team cohesion, community expectations, and fun—while sharing a facility with members, guests, and other classes.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of existing Hoosier Heights program curriculum, policies, protocols and procedures to run effective programming, and effectively manage risk.

  • Come prepared to run practice within the role assigned, each practice should utilize a prepared lesson plan that provides a variety of activities to develop individual skills + abilities.

  • Utilize existing program curriculum to plan and execute team practice plans that supports youth athletes in meeting program outcomes including, but not limited to knot tying, belaying, climbing etiquette, technique, and best practices.

  • Communicate clearly with program families, facility staff, and the leadership team as needed.

  • Be a team player, collaborate with other team coaches in inter-team relations and events, as well serve as a positive role model for our youth athletes.

  • Attend staff training as expected.

  • Support in maintaining a positive environment for all youth program athletes and a culture of respect while sharing the climbing space.

  • Assist in the care, set-up, clean-up of program equipment, and other duties assigned as deemed necessary.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office and physically demanding  environment. This position requires a variety of activity levels including frequent sitting at a workstation, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, communicating, and climbing.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Self-motivating, energetic, team player with a strong understanding of positive behavior management and group facilitation skills with evidence of direct work with youth.

  • Experience coaching youth sports to youth athletes across a range of ages and abilities.

  • Strong personal knowledge and experience of rock climbing, including bouldering, top-rope, and sport lead. With the ability to pass a top-rope test and sport lead test.

  • Ability to meet certification requirements needed to work with youth based on industry + government requirements, which may include USA-Climbing Membership, and First Aid/CPR requirements.

Availability:

  • Applicants must be available for a minimum of 2 or 3 weekdays during after-school hours. Practice shifts currently run Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 7:45PM.
